Citi Launches Citi FinTech Meetups to Engage Local Developer Ecosystem

Citi FinTech Meetups will kick off in Miami this week as part of Sime MIA

MIAMI--()--Citi is excited to announce the launch of Citi® FinTech Meetups, the bank’s latest initiative to engage with thriving local developer ecosystems. The inaugural Citi FinTech Meetup will be held on December 3rd at The Lab Miami and will focus on the city’s significance as a financial technology hub connecting the Americas.

“Citi is eager to work directly with local developer communities to fuel innovation in financial services globally,” said Heather Cox, Chief Client Experience, Digital and Marketing Officer for Global Consumer Banking at Citi. “The goal of Citi FinTech Meetups is to engage financial technology ecosystems that are in the early stages of development and support the startups that could create the next big thing in banking. We want to begin conversations with developers and keep them going as we pilot new ideas at Citi.”

“Miami is home to a thriving, talented developer community,” said Bob Annibale, Global Director of Citi Community Development and Microfinance. “Citi FinTech Meetups are an exciting opportunity to enable the development of the next generation of innovative tools, systems and touchpoints for expanding financial inclusion and supporting the growth of small businesses.”

Citi FinTech Meetups is just one way Citi is reaching out to developers and startups. The Miami Meetup follows the highly successfully Citi Mobile Challenge events held in Buenos Aires and Bogota in June and Silicon Valley, New York and Miami last month. This global initiative is the first of its kind in banking and has brought together several hundred developers to reimagine mobile banking and payments and to stimulate digital progress in the industry. Winners from the Citi Mobile Challenge U.S. will be announced on December 2nd.

Citi plans to hold recurring Meetups in Miami and to extend the series to additional developing FinTech markets globally. The Miami Meetup on December 3rd will feature thought leaders and entrepreneurs such as:

  • Chris Boos, CEO of Arago,
  • Mike Butcher, Editor-at-Large of TechCrunch,
  • Juan Calle, Founder and CEO of .co Internet,
