Iron Mountain and Seagate Partner to Offer Secure Cloud Server Backup and Disaster Recovery Solution

Seagate selects Iron Mountain’s data center for colocation; Iron Mountain to resell Seagate EVault Cloud Backup and Cloud Disaster Recovery

BOSTON--()--Organizations are increasingly relying on cloud-based backup and disaster recovery tools to protect their critical data and business operations. Iron Mountain (NYSE:IRM) and Seagate Technology plc (NASDAQ:STX) today announced a multi-year alliance agreement that brings together distinct capabilities in security, services, and scale from two industry leading information storage and management companies. Seagate will co-locate parts of its data center operations to Iron Mountain’s National Underground Data Center. Additionally, Iron Mountain will resell Seagate EVault Cloud Server Backup and Cloud Disaster Recovery solutions.

“This partnership offers customers a unique combination of technology and trust,” said Jason Buffington, senior data protection analyst for the Enterprise Strategy Group. “Combining Seagate’s expertise as an early innovator in hybrid data protection, built on on-premises appliances and cloud repositories; with Iron Mountain’s solid reputation as a trusted protector of data and assets, should be a welcome pairing for customers and partners looking for hybrid protection. As the business continuity/disaster recovery market continues to evolve, this combination will be one to watch and partner with moving forward.”

“This is an incredible partnership between two global data management leaders,” said Mike Palmer, senior vice president and general manager of Cloud Systems and Solutions at Seagate. “The unique combination of our cloud systems and solutions being housed in Iron Mountain’s highly secure and compliant data center provides organizations with unparalleled security, reliability, and confidence.”

Iron Mountain will offer Seagate EVault Cloud Backup and Cloud Disaster Recovery services with the benefit of their data being protected in Iron Mountain’s National Underground Data Center near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Through this partnership Iron Mountain customers will be able to:

  • Protect their servers with continuous backup into one of the most secured data centers and pay only for what is used;
  • Store backup data 220-feet underground for disaster recovery and retention in Iron Mountain’s ultra-resilient and secure data center; and
  • Receive recovery services with Seagate’s industry leading recovery team within agreed upon service-level agreements (1 hour, 24 hours, and 48 hours)

“We take data backup and storage very seriously, much like Seagate, so it was a natural fit for our companies to join forces,” said Eileen Sweeney, senior vice president and general manager, Data Management, Iron Mountain. “Customers come to Iron Mountain because of our reputation as the one to turn to when you need to know that your data is safe, no matter what happens. We’re very happy to provide this level of reliability to Iron Mountain and Seagate customers, and pleased to offer our customers Seagate’s best in class cloud backup and disaster recovery solution.”
