CH2M HILL Welcomes Announcement by UK Commission for Employment and Skills to Increase Spending on Skills

LONDON--()--CH2M HILL welcomes the publication by the UK Commission for Employment and Skills (UKCES) on its 'statement of priorities' calling for more companies in the UK to invest in staff training and apprenticeships as opposed to relying on government funded schemes.

Under proposals announced yesterday, 25 November, the UKCES outlines a number of priorities for action in order to develop skills and improve productivity, including: more employer-led apprenticeship programmes, closer links developed between businesses and the education system and a stronger lead to be taken from private sector companies in helping develop skills policy.

CH2M HILL, who currently work on the engineering and programme management of some of Europe's most iconic infrastructure projects, including Crossrail, Thames Tideway Tunnel and HS2, have an industry leading approach to skills development and an established apprenticeship programme. In 2014, CH2M HILL recruited over 100 apprentices, graduates and paid interns in order to develop young talent within the sector and help to build the next generation of skilled engineers - plugging the skills gap that is emerging in the engineering sector.

Director of European Corporate Affairs at CH2M HILL, Jonathan Refoy, said: "CH2M HILL welcomes this publication from the UKCES. The industry must do more if we are to address the skills challenges we face and this is an important step to get companies to create more apprenticeships and take a lead on developing skills.”
