RightCare Co-founder Recognized by the American Academy of Nursing for Her Commitment To Reducing Readmissions and Improving Patient Outcomes

Dr. Kathryn Bowles receives prestigious Edge Runner recognition acknowledging her outstanding contributions to the field of healthcare

HORSHAM, Pa.--()--RightCare announced today that Dr. Kathryn Bowles, PhD, RN, FAAN, FACMI, van Ameringen Chair in Nursing Excellence; Professor of Nursing and co-founder of RightCare, has been designated an Edge Runner, a prestigious recognition from the American Academy of Nursing.

Dr. Bowles is being recognized for her continued commitment to addressing and improving the way in which clinicians identify high-risk patients and make referral decisions regarding post-acute care. Her risk-assessment tool, Discharge Decision Support System, is an evidence-based screening tool that uniquely focuses on the factors that influence the self-care ability of patients once they are discharged. Discharge Decision Support System has demonstrated success in improving patient care and reducing hospital costs associated with readmission— both in care and penalties.

“We are extraordinarily proud of Dr. Bowles and this honorable designation that she has received for her contributions to the field of healthcare,” said Eric Heil, RightCare co-founder, President & CEO. “She has always been committed to improving outcomes for patients, and has worked diligently to develop new, innovative and revolutionary ways to enhance our product and help optimize post-acute care transitions for patients and health systems.”

The Edge Runner award is given to nurses who are practical innovators and who have led the way in bringing new thinking and new methods to a wide range of health care challenges. Edge Runners have developed care models and interventions that demonstrate significant clinical and financial outcomes. Many of their stories underscore the courage and fighting spirit of nurse leaders who have persevered despite institutional inertia or resistance.

Through Raise the Voice, the American Academy of Nursing has identified 29 Edge Runners and begun mobilizing its fellows, partner organizations and health leaders to ensure that Americans hear and understand the exciting possibilities for transforming the health care system. Raise the Voice tells the story of how nurses are creating new, transformational options that help people stay healthy and cope better with illness.
