VIENNA--()--Speech Processing Solutions, the leader in the professional dictation market, celebrates their sixtieth anniversary this November. The company proudly glances over more than half a century of successful technology innovation and improving peoples’ every day work lives. With the latest advances, the company looks forward to an even more promising future.

A history of meaningful innovation

Philips dictation solutions was founded in 1954 in Vienna, Austria. They created the first cassette-based dictation machine in 1958, starting off their road to innovation. 1966 marked a historical moment, as Philips Speech Processing developed the first ever ‘Mini-Cassette’. Over 120 million mini cassettes have been sold worldwide. Philips has since then become the standard dictation technology in the medical, legal and various other industries around the world.

Continuously setting the industry benchmark

Philips Speech Processing was the first company in Europe to be awarded the ISO 9001 certification for quality assurance as early as 1989 and the ISO 14001 for environmental management in 2001. They won numerous awards repeatedly over the years such as the reputable IF Design Award. 1991 marked the launch of Voice System 4000, which became the standard in telephone dictation worldwide. In 1996 the SpeechPad became the first professional digital mobile dictation device. This was the first device to record using the secure and high quality Digital Speech Standard (.dss).

In 1997 Philips launched SpeechMike, the first PC navigated digital dictation microphone, followed in 2005 by the ground-breaking SpeechMike II. The 2012-launched SpeechMike Premium, features a free-floating microphone and the world’s first motion sensor in a stationary digital dictation device. The Philips SpeechMike is the undisputable number 1 in desktop dictation.

In 2010 Philips launched a secure dictation app for smartphones, making dictation on the go even more convenient. In 2013 the Pocket Memo 8000 series were launched, combining superior mobile dictation with revolutionary ergonomics and design, as well as including all-new features such as the “classic mode.” In 2014, a full new range of Voice Tracers, enabling best-in-class audio quality in any recording situation were also added to the growing portfolio. The latest innovation, Philips SpeechLive, makes dictation easier and more flexible than ever before, by bringing secure dictation workflow to the cloud and enabling seamless speech-to-text with the new service Philips SpeechScribe. The service works seamlessly with the Philips devices as well as with their secure smartphone app.

Looking into a bright, promising future

Since its beginnings, Philips dictation solutions has always seized every change or major technological shift as an opportunity to further evolve and reinvent itself. The company moved from analogue tape devices to digital recorders, creating smartphone apps, integrating speech recognition and entire customizable dictation workflow solutions.

Dr. Thomas Brauner, CEO of Speech Processing Solutions, quotes: “We are now the only full solution provider for all speech-to-text needs, such as software, hardware and services – from one of the 50 strongest global brands. We are really proud of what we have achieved so far and are looking forward to an even more promising future.”
