MARINA DEL REY, Calif.--()--textPlus today announced the launch of Nextplus, a mobile telecom offering in an app that lets people send and receive free text messages from any connected device. It is the first product release in a suite of mobile services that will soon include the ability to place and receive calls. It can be used as a stand-alone mobile phone service or to augment an existing plan.

“Nextplus is a truly revolutionary service,” said Scott Lahman, founder and CEO of parent company, textPlus. “It offers our customers the ultimate flexibility and freedom to build their own communications stack, free from contracts and delivered over the Internet. Everyone in the world is now 30 seconds and a free download away from having a new mobile number.”

A contract-free alternative to traditional carrier text messaging services, Nextplus allows users to send and receive unlimited free text and multimedia messages on any device. Users are given a dedicated phone number, which they can use to message at no cost, with any of the company’s 70+ million existing users, as well as anyone with a U.S. or Canadian mobile number.

Nextplus works independently of fees and contracts. The app works on cellular and Wi-Fi networks and can function independent of a 3G or 4G mobile plan. It can be used on any connected device, such as smartphones and tablets. Nextplus users can receive push notifications so a text is never missed and, as a cloud-based service, it lets users read and respond to texts on any of their devices at any time.

The Nextplus app includes a rich set of multimedia features including animated GIFs, stickers, emoticons, delivery notifications, online user status and more. Through the app, users can also assign their own custom avatar and animated GIF for a more expressive messaging experience.

“Messaging should be fun, fast and easy,” added Lahman. “We have created an original library of stickers, which, combined with our popular GIFs, make it possible for people to have entire conversations without typing a single line of text. Through this first texting app release of Nextplus and our accessible approach to mobile, we are ushering in the next generation of communication.”
