“Intertrust is growing its research capabilities to continue its legacy of making fundamental contributions to the way connected devices share and access information safely in a broad set of vertical markets,” said Talal Shamoon, chief executive officer of Intertrust. “We are exploring new frontiers related to digital trust and security for distributed Big Data systems in areas ranging from privacy preserving ad targeting to DNA sequencing to environmental data services and the Internet of Things. Dr. Tarjan is one of the world’s most esteemed computer scientists, and we look forward to driving another generation of breakthroughs with him.”

Intertrust has developed innovative technologies that allow people using Internet connected digital devices to trust each other when exchanging data and conducting commerce. Initial applications of these inventions included digital rights management technology, but today, Intertrust’s initiatives range from Internet security technologies to privacy management and Big Data security.

“Intertrust has always looked over the technology horizon,” said Dr. Tarjan. “Their recent work on Big Data, privacy and secure systems technologies poses an exciting and challenging set of new research questions whose solutions could have far reaching effects on the way people use and trust the Web for everything from advertising to healthcare to the Internet of Things.”

Dr. Tarjan has made fundamental contributions in the fields of algorithms and data structures. He is the recipient of numerous academic distinctions including the Association for Computing Machinery A. M. Turing Award, and the Nevanlinna Prize in mathematical aspects of computer science.

From 1997-2002, Dr. Tarjan served as Intertrust’s chief scientist. He went on to serve as a Senior Fellow at Hewlett-Packard and Visiting Researcher at Microsoft Research. Earlier in his career he was with AT&T Bell Labs and the NEC Research Institute. He has held academic positions at Cornell University, University of California Berkeley, Stanford University and N.Y.U.

Dr. Tarjan will split his time between Princeton, NJ and Silicon Valley.
