VEVEY, Switzerland--()--On October 9th, during the global Creating Shared Value Forum, co-organised by Nestlé and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, it was announced that the overall winner of the 2014 Nestlé Creating Shared Value Prize is Honey Care Africa (HCA)!

HCA is an East African company offering rural, smallholder households opportunities to generate additional income through honey production.

Its share of the CHF 500’000 prize (split between the three finalists) will support HCA’s ‘A Sweeter South Sudan’ initiative that is aiming to help 35’000 impoverished farmers become commercial beekeepers by 2017 – a concept that has already raised the incomes of more than 15’000 Kenyan farmers.

Mr. Madison Ayer, CEO of HCA said he was delighted with the win: “The Creating Shared Value Prize is such a wonderful recognition of the hard work and passion of our team, farmers, and customers in Africa. And what is even more exciting is the opportunity to build a long-term relationship with Nestlé, as we leverage our sustainable local supply chain with Nestlé’s global resources and expertise.”

The Runners-up

MSABI, a Tanzanian not-for-profit organisation, that operates one of the largest rural water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) programmes in the region.

Sanergy, a Kenyan social enterprise that makes affordable and hygienic sanitation accessible in low-income urban areas throughout Africa.
