CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--In recognition of Careers in Energy Week (October 13 - 17), ComEd is partnering with the Illinois Energy Workforce Consortium (IEWC) and other Illinois-based energy groups to increase public awareness of a variety of careers within the energy industry, and to emphasize the important role these companies play in supporting the future workforce.

The demands for talent will be even greater in the future as our industry transforms and, as a result, we are devoting a great deal of effort to identifying and developing the next generation of workers,” said Anne Pramaggiore, President and CEO, ComEd. “To attract and empower the future energy trailblazers and innovators, we support a number of initiatives that promote education in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) and career opportunities in the energy industry.”
As part of the effort, ComEd is sponsoring an awareness campaign that includes the mailing of Careers in Energy Week informational packages to 500 high schools in ComEd’s service territory. The packets contain information about careers in the energy industry and a contest opportunity that offers teachers, who demonstrate good use of the materials, $200 classroom grants.
ComEd representatives also will visit a number of elementary and high schools to talk to students about the many opportunities available in the STEM fields. Those schools include St. Barnabas Elementary School, Wendell Green Elementary School, Keller Regional Gifted Elementary School and North Grand High School, all in Chicago. ComEd employees also will lead a College Essay Coaching Session at Rowe-Clark Academy and provide CPS 11th and 12th graders from the UIC Chance Program with a tour of its Rockford, Ill., training center. ComEd will also host a table at the Technology Center DuPage to showcase energy career options, and training and recruitment opportunities.
