Samsung’s #DITCHtheDSLR Movement Goes Hollywood

Nick Cannon and Julianne Hough Join Samsung and Habitat for Humanity to set a Selfie Guinness World Record

RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J.--()--Samsung Electronics America, Inc. takes the #DITCHtheDSLR movement to Hollywood and invites consumers to Hollywood and Highland on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. PT. Following the success of Samsung’s first #DitchTheDSLR Day in New York’s Times Square, the brand heads to the west coast with an all-new experience and an opportunity for consumers to ditch their clunky DSLR for Samsung’s award-winning NX30 and NX Mini cameras. America’s Got Talent host and entertainer, Nick Cannon and actress and Dancing with the Stars judge, Julianne Hough will be on-hand to help energize the crowd as consumers experience the NX line of SMART cameras and take part in a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to break a selfie GUINNESS World Record that benefits Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA).

Newer, slimmer and more connected than old-fashioned DSLRs, Compact System Cameras (CSC) are at the forefront of a revolution in the camera industry, led by Samsung’s award-winning NX family of products. Early morning attendees will have the opportunity to #DitchtheDSLR in exchange for an award-winning NX30 or NX Mini camera (retail values $999 and $449 respectively, while supplies last)*. The 20.3 megapixel NX30 mirrorless compact system camera (CSC) sports an APS-C CMOS sensor, an advanced hybrid auto focus system, a DSLR-like all-metal body, with reduced size and weight and industry-leading Wi-Fi connectivity. The NX Mini addresses the socially active connected photographer who likes to travel light without sacrificing performance. The ultra slim design and the versatility of interchangeable lens with a flip-up LCD screen and innovative features like Wink Shot help make the NX Mini the ideal “selfie” camera, perfect for the event’s Guinness World Record attempts.

In addition to experiencing the state-of-the-art technology found within the Samsung NX Line of SMART Cameras, consumers can join celebrities Nick Cannon and Julianne Hough and Habitat LA to break a selfie GUINNESS World Record starting at 3 p.m. PT. Event attendees are encouraged to be a part of the record attempt, which will be independently verified by a member of the Guinness Book of World Records. Samsung will donate $50,000 to Habitat LA for their volunteer efforts.

“Samsung is known for relentless technology innovation, entering a market and driving change. We’ve turned our eye toward digital imaging and are disrupting old-fashioned notions about digital photography with the award-winning NX line of SMART cameras,” said Ron Gazzola, Vice President for Marketing, Digital Imaging, Samsung Electronics America, Inc. “The enthusiasm from photography professionals and consumers for our #DitchtheDSLR campaign has proven that the market is crying out for change, and excited to have newer, lighter and more connected cameras that reflect their lifestyles.”

Samsung’s #DitchtheDSLR event also will feature several unique shooting stations, where consumers have the opportunity to experience the line of mirrorless and SMART cameras in a variety of scenarios:

  • Get in on the selfie craze and join Samsung, Nick Cannon and Julianne Hough to help break the record for most selfies captured in an hour.
  • Chat with Samsung #Imageloggers to discuss their experiences since ditching the DSLR in favor of Samsung’s NX cameras and get tips on how to capture great images.
  • Highlighting the speed of Samsung’s NX Line, consumers can take their pole positions and freeze the fast-paced action of slot cars as they race around the track with a variety of lenses.
