AGGIOS Heads IEEE Standardization of Unified Hardware Abstraction (UHA) for Energy Proportional Electronic Systems

The IEEE P2415 standards project opens the path for wide adoption of AGGIOS® energy design and management technology for mobile and wall-powered devices

IRVINE, Calif.--()--Based on the results of a year-long study group spearheaded by AGGIOS® and supported by more than 30 leading electronics companies, the IEEE, the world’s largest professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for humanity, announced the formation of the IEEE P2415™ Unified Hardware Abstraction and Layer Working Group. According to the IEEE press release, the new standard, IEEE P2415 “Standard for Unified Hardware Abstraction and Layer for Energy Proportional Electronic Systems,” is intended to define the syntax and semantics for energy oriented description of hardware, software and power management for mobile and wall-powered electronic systems. It enables specifying, modeling, verifying, designing, managing, testing and measuring the energy features of the device, covering both the pre- and post-silicon design flow. The new standard shall enable true proportionality between the energy consumed and the useful work delivered by the device.

“With IEEE P2415 the electronic industry is making a decisive cooperative step towards improved energy efficiency of mobile and plugged electronic devices through accountability and transparency of the software and hardware for every microjoule of energy and every milliwatt of power consumed by a mobile or plugged device. The AGGIOS team is excited about the recognition of our vision and efforts by the IEEE and the electronics industry, and we look forward to the activities of the working group,” said Dr. Vojin Zivojnovic, CEO of AGGIOS and chair of the IEEE P2415 working group.

AGGIOS provides energy design and management automation software IP and design tools for mobile and wall-powered electronic devices. The CLIOS™ energy management kernel improves the performance of the standard OS in all active modes and delivers the lowest power saving modes unattainable with standard OS power management. The EnergyLab™ design tool is used as the design, visualization, generation and test/measurement cockpit for all power related activities and serves as the configuration tool for the CLIOS kernel. The UHA description format is used to create descriptions of the energy characteristics of the hardware and software to generate the application optimized CLIOS kernel. AGGIOS, Inc. has offices in Irvine, CA, and Belgrade, Serbia.
