The financial crisis in 2008, the eruption of Eyjafjallajökull in 2011, capital controls in 2014: Iceland has seen many challenges in recent years, but has bounced back. Iceland has managed the fastest recovery in European history, and is entering a new era of sustainable growth. But what are its options and what will the next years look like? Iceland has strong demographics and a fully funded pension system but capital controls are still in place. The number of tourists has grown from 550.000 to 900.000 in just a few years and become the second largest industry sector. How come? Let us consider what the future holds for the country after the lifting of capital controls.
The seminar will take place just a few days after the state budget is presented to the Parliament in Reykjavik. Therefore this will be a goodopportunity to gain insight into government policy for the coming years. An expert panel with the finance minister Bjarni Benediktsson, Håkon Fure, Equity Research, DNB Markets, head of research in Regina Bjarnadottir in Arion Bank and Jon Bentsson, senior economist at Islandsbanki research will close the seminar with a short debate and opportunity for questions from the audience.
