MedStar Health to Deploy AirStrip ONE for Labor and Delivery

Leading healthcare provider in the Washington, D.C. region selects market-leading clinical mobility solution to improve outcomes and reduce costs

SAN ANTONIO & COLUMBIA, Md.--()--MedStar Health, the largest healthcare provider in Maryland and the Washington, D.C. region, has selected AirStrip® – the leading provider of interoperable mobile healthcare applications that drive clinical transformation – to deploy its market-leading mobility solution to monitor patients in labor.

“MedStar Health is an innovator, committed to providing its physicians and clinical employees the leading-edge technology and tools that enable the best possible care, and AirStrip is firmly established as a leader in mobility,” said Stephen R.T. Evans, MD, vice president for medical affairs and chief medical officer for MedStar Health. “AirStrip impressed us with their vision, their powerful partnerships with players such as Microsoft and Intel, and their ability to execute on that vision. Most importantly, patients will benefit from MedStar caregivers having anywhere, anytime access to a full range of live and historical information that can support faster and more informed care decisions.”

A $4.2 billion, not-for-profit healthcare system with 30,000 associates, 6,000 affiliated physicians and more than 3,100 staffed beds, MedStar Health had more than 150,000 inpatient admissions and 3.7 million outpatient visits in fiscal year 2013. Among its flagship hospitals are MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and MedStar Washington Hospital Center, the largest private hospital in the District of Columbia.

“As a leader in the national capital region and in its innovative approach to healthcare, MedStar Health recognizes that AirStrip interoperable mobility solutions can help strengthen labor and delivery care,” AirStrip CEO Alan Portela said. “MedStar Health has set ambitious goals for improving outcomes and reducing costs, and is embracing mobility to address those goals.”

In February, AirStrip and MedStar Health announced a collaboration agreement as part of the AirStrip Innovation MarketplaceTM (AIM) Program. The two are now working to integrate enhanced cardiac diagnostic visualizations developed by MedStar Health into AirStrip ONE® - the first enterprise-capable, vendor-, platform- and data-source-agnostic clinical mobility solution.
