OOTU Announces Initial Release of New Movie Website

Site Provides Easy Way to Discover, Learn About & Immediately Watch Thousands of Films Online

SAN FRANCISCO--()--Movie fans nationwide now have an easy way to discover, learn about and immediately watch thousands of films online, thanks to a new film website, OOTUmovies (movies.ootu.com). The site is the first application from OOTU, Inc. (www.OOTU.com), a new semantic technology discovery company, and is built on the company’s proprietary semantic discovery technology.

“Through our research, we learned that more than 50% of people sit down to watch TV without knowing what they want to watch,” said Michael Knapp, CEO and co-founder of OOTU. “Traditional algorithm-based recommendation engines are not able to really know what people like about a particular movie, or what aspect about their movie preferences would appeal to them tonight. In fact, people themselves very often can’t define exactly what they are in the mood for. OOTUmovies is different because the user is placed in the driver seat and acts as the algorithm, selecting the element of a movie they find appealing at that moment. The list of results is displayed using the same semantically-sorted classifications, making it easy to find something to watch.”

OOTUmovies offers a semantic navigator, immediately breaking down everything about a film to help users find similar, related content immediately. In addition to providing a film’s synopsis, cast information, trailer and film ratings, most interesting titles are available for rent or purchase immediately online from sources such as iTunes, Target, Amazon, VUDU and Netflix.

“There are vast libraries of films available for online viewing, yet helping users quickly discover one entertaining movie for them to watch, just when they want it, is an unsolved problem,” continued Knapp. “Not only that, OOTUmovies enables viewers to discover an online selection that they would not have thought to search for and didn’t even know they were interested. It is a unique and useful tool!”

OOTU, an acronym for Outline of the Universe, has been in development since 2012. Co-founded by Michael Knapp, Ph.D. and Michael Huffman, the company’s technology is patent pending. Financial backers of the company include Dr. Knapp, venture capitalists Robert Nelsen and Clinton Bybee; McKenna Ventures; and other investors.
