RS Components Challenges Hackers and Musicians to Get Creative with Arduino and Raspberry Pi at Music Tech Fest

RS sponsorship is part of a collaboration to unite academia and industry to drive music technology innovation

OXFORD, England--()--RS Components (RS), the trading brand of Electrocomponents plc (LSE:ECM), the global distributor for engineers, is sponsoring Music Tech Fest London from 5th-7th September at the London Symphony Orchestra’s own venue, the LSO St Lukes. In addition to sponsoring one of the artists at the event, RS is challenging hackers and musicians to get together to create a music technology innovation using, amongst other components, Arduino development boards and Raspberry Pi computer modules. The collaborators will have 24 hours to complete the project and will then give a showcase performance of each hack challenge on the main festival stage. A live YouTube stream will highlight the results and the winning hackers will be presented with a prize donated by RS.

Music Tech Fest is a global ‘festival of ideas’, which brings together the entire music technology ecosystem, from influential musicians to music tech start-ups and app creators, performers, researchers, and hackers. RS provided development boards at the same event in Boston earlier this year.

In addition to a specific RS hack challenge and donation of a range of products, RS is also sponsoring a unique collaboration between pro hacker Adam John Williams and solo artist Jason Singh of www.thesinghthing.com who most recently added his musical expertise to slots on the BBC’s Springwatch programme. Using his voice and samplers, he aspires to engage people through exciting creative experiences which mirror the innovative values and ethos of RS.

Guy Magrath, Global Head of eCommerce at RS Components, commented, “As a business that has helped engineers to innovate for over 75 years, we are embracing the digital age by supporting futuristic projects and events like Music Tech Fest that bring the application of components to life. Through such events we are able to foster innovation by educating and creating a buzz amongst a diverse audience.”

“For us, the three day event is the perfect platform to leverage the expertise of engineers and hackers, and bring their knowledge to life by demonstrating the use of components in various ways. We are delighted to be involved with Music Tech Fest and the opportunity it presents in developing new applications of components in music,” he added.
