Broadcasting From a Mobile Device to Twitch Becomes a Reality on the NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet

NVIDIA SHIELD tablet marks first mobile device to integrate Twitch broadcasting

SAN FRANCISCO--()--Twitch, the world’s leading video platform and community for gamers, today announced that the NVIDIA SHIELD tablet is the first mobile device to offer a way to broadcast to the Twitch community. The tablet will also feature the Twitch viewing application which currently boasts more than 14 million installs. With the vast and fast growing mobile gaming market, this integration marks an important milestone in the age of live social video ushered in by Twitch.

As the first mobile device to integrate Twitch broadcasting, the NVIDIA SHIELD tablet enables virtually any content – including top Android games and games streaming from their PCs – running on its mobile platform to be broadcast to Twitch with a few simple taps. The broadcasting interface combines a 5MP camera, microphone, great speakers and chat overlay functionality for a robust interactive experience. A wireless controller with headset is also available.

“It’s no secret our goal is to be everywhere that gamers are, which includes bringing Twitch broadcasting and viewing to every console,” said Kevin Lin, COO, Twitch. “With this integration into the NVIDIA SHIELD tablet, we are not only one step closer to achieving our goal, we are strengthening our relationship with the ever-growing global mobile community.”

The SHIELD tablet will also be pre-installed with the latest version of the Twitch Android viewing application. In June, 2014, 850 million minutes were watched using the Twitch app on Android devices by 2.6 million unique viewers.

“As mobile and social gaming are on the rise, people want to share their experiences with others in a fun and interactive way,” said Matt Wuebbling, General Manager of the Tegra business at NVIDIA. “Twitch is a perfect companion, allowing gamers to share their content from the ultimate tablet for gamers – the NVIDIA SHIELD tablet.”
