Thomas Boyd Named Dean and Vice President of Kaplan University School of Business

DAVENPORT, Iowa--()--Kaplan University today announced that Dr. Thomas Boyd has been named dean and vice president of the School of Business. In this role he will direct and oversee strategic academic and administrative objectives and lead initiatives to create agile, technology-enabled, competency based programs.

As dean and vice president, Dr. Boyd will continue to oversee development of the School of Business undergraduate and graduate degree programs. He will also work with the senior leadership team to advance the university-wide strategic vision for quality in curricula, policies and practices. Dr. Boyd will report to Kaplan University provost, Dr. Betty Vandenbosch.

“Tom is a forward-thinking leader who has propelled the School of Business to new heights with enterprising programs that align higher education with employer demands,” said Dr. Vandenbosch. “His combined strengths as an educator and business executive, and his leadership style founded on teamwork and empowerment, are great assets to the University and the students we serve.”

Dr. Boyd has guided the School of Business to achieve many milestones, such as launching the new Center for Excellence in Financial Services in partnership with the School of Professional and Continuing Education. Other achievements include accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), and receiving sought-after professional designations. One designation is with the Society for Human Resource Management for its undergraduate and graduate programs with specializations in human resources; the other with the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. (CFP® Board) for the Master of Science in Finance program with a specialization in financial planning.

Strong learning outcomes from the school’s graduating students taking the Peregrine Academic Services assessment exams mark yet another milestone for the School of Business under Dr. Boyd’s guidance.

An accomplished educator, Dr. Boyd has won numerous teaching, research, and service awards, including the 2010 Faculty of the Year award from the Mihaylo College of Business and Economics (CBE) at California State University, Fullerton. Dr. Boyd is a former product manager with Motorola, Inc. and holds a PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, an MBA from Florida Atlantic University, and a bachelor’s degree in management from Oakland University in Michigan.
