COLUMBUS, Ohio--()--Momentive Specialty Chemicals Inc. and Momentive Performance Materials Inc. (“Momentive” or the “Company”) today announced the joint publication of their sustainability report entitled, “Sustainability: 2013.” The report can be found in the sustainability section of the Momentive website.

The report highlights a number of operational and environmental improvements as a result of Momentive’s sustainability initiatives. For example, the number of environmental incidents decreased by 29 percent in 2013 compared to 2012 and fell by 79 percent from 2007 to 2013, which is the lowest level since being tracked. In addition, greenhouse gas (GHG) intensity, which is defined as the amount of carbon dioxide equivalent GHG emitted to produce a specific product, has improved in three out of the last four years and overall GHG emissions have been reduced by 3.7 percent since 2010.

The report focuses on three areas of sustainability: operational excellence; product innovation; and corporate responsibility. It provides readers with insight into Momentive’s community involvement and provides metrics surrounding greenhouse gas emissions, energy efficiency, waste intensity, water usage and safety.

“Our strong environmental, health and safety (EH&S) commitment is driving continuous improvements in how we operate our facilities throughout the world,” said Craig O. Morrison, Chairman, President and CEO. “We remain committed to operating our plants safely, conserving resources, serving our customers and being active in the communities in which we operate.”

“The report outlines significant gains from our 2013 efforts and acts a guide for us to address areas of improvement so that we can attain our goal of zero incidents and injuries,” said Karen Koster, Executive Vice President, EH&S.
