WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.--()--Comcast announced the launch of Xfinity WiFi Hotspots in Florida today, with Palm Beach County and Broward being the first areas in the State to get access to the newly-deployed outdoor and neighborhood WiFi hotspots. This means that consumers can now use these hotspots to access the Internet from their mobile devices in high-traffic and popular locations where they typically spend time working, commuting, shopping, dining and more.

By the end of this year, more than 400,000 Xfinity WiFi hotspots will be available throughout Florida.

“These new hotspots are a tremendous benefit to our customers because it gives them many more opportunities to access and enjoy their social media and entertainment services wherever they are,” said Tom Zemaitis, Vice President of Marketing for Comcast’s Florida Region. “This is a super-fast and very convenient way to stay connected when you are on the go.”

The new Xfinity WiFi network in Florida now consists of:

  • Xfinity WiFi Outdoor Hotspots: Comcast has deployed Xfinity WiFi hotspots in outdoor locations throughout Palm Beach County and in Broward, in key areas that allow consumers to access and use the Internet whenever they need. For example, Xfinity WiFi hotspots are in place in E. Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach, Clematis St. in West Palm Beach (from the Mandel public library and towards the park near the waterfront where SunFest was held), Ocean Drive in Riviera Beach, and along the shopping and restaurant corridor of N. Congress Ave in Boynton Beach.
  • Xfinity WiFi Hotspots in Business Locations: Most Comcast Business Internet customers are eligible to receive an Xfinity WiFi hotspot for no additional charge when they order service. This is a value-added feature that directly improves their patrons’ experience. Examples include restaurants, café and bakeries, retail establishments and medical office waiting rooms.
  • Xfinity WiFi Neighborhood Hotspots: Comcast began providing its residential customers with Xfinity Wireless Gateways the ability to have a second “xfinitywifi” signal (called SSID) in their home that is separate and distinct from their private and secure in-home Wi-Fi signal. This second signal provides visiting Xfinity Internet customers Wi-Fi access without the need to use the homeowner’s private network password.

Xfinity WiFi Debuts in Universal Orlando

Xfinity WiFi also recently made its debut in Universal Orlando Resort, providing FREE park-wide high-speed mobile Internet access across both Universal Orlando theme parks – Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios Florida – and at Universal CityWalk. Xfinity WiFi coverage includes main walkways, most indoor dining and shopping venues, plus attraction queue lines. In-park Xfinity WiFi will allow guests to run the Universal Orlando mobile app, along with other web-based experiences.

Finding the nearest Xfinity WiFi hotspot

Most Xfinity Internet customers can access Xfinity WiFi hotspots, at no additional charge, by selecting “xfinitywifi” from the list of available networks on their laptops or mobile devices and entering their Comcast email and password. The Xfinity WiFi App, available for download on both iOS and Android devices, makes it easy to locate business and outdoor hotspots, or customers can visit the hotspot finder map online at www.xfinity.com/wifi.
