Google Driverless Car? What’s the Big Deal, Asks Neato Robotics

How is the Google driverless car similar to the Neato Robotics driverless vacuum? Here's what's the same...and what's different. (Graphic: Business Wire)

NEWARK, Calif.--()--Google’s announcement that it has released a new prototype of its driverless car elicited a puzzled reaction from robot vacuum manufacturer Neato Robotics®.

“What’s the big deal? We’ve had a self-driving robot without a steering wheel and brakes for many years!” said Nancy Nunziati, Neato’s vice president of marketing.

Neato Robotics makes popular driverless home robot vacuums that automatically navigate through a household, work without human intervention and pick up dirt and pet hair, something the Google driverless car can’t do.

“There are lots of similarities,” admitted Nunziati, “but Neato is available now. And you don’t need seatbelts or approval from the US Department of Transportation to use it.”
