Transplace and Celtic Expand Intermodal Services in Mexico

Leading Third Party Logistics Provider and Intermodal Company Expand Capabilities in Mexico, Strengthen Cross-border Offering for Customers

DALLAS--()--Transplace, a leading provider of transportation management services and logistics technology, today announced that Celtic International has expanded its cross-border and intra-Mexico intermodal capabilities. The expansion provides Transplace and Celtic with a more comprehensive U.S.-Mexico service offering, and will allow their customers to better utilize intermodal services in and out of Mexico.

“With an already established presence in Mexico and a strong intermodal platform, this expansion provides Transplace and Celtic customers with a more complete offering, giving them greater access to equipment capacity and enabling them to take advantage of the benefits of intermodal transportation and better optimize transportation spend,” said Ben Enriquez, country director for Transplace and Celtic in Mexico. “As a result of our continued investment, we have an experienced team and the necessary infrastructure in place on both sides of the border to provide an integrated and strategic solution for companies looking to optimize freight and utilize intermodal transportation.”

The expanded intermodal capabilities are a natural extension of Transplace’s strong service offerings in Mexico, which include bilingual customer service and a Transportation Management System (TMS) with capabilities tailored for the Mexican market. In 2011, Transplace Mexico became a licensed U.S. Customs Broker, enabling the company to be a single-source provider for its customers moving freight cross-border. As part of its recent investment, Transplace has expanded its customer service center in Monterrey, Jalisco Mexico to further support the efficient movement of shipments across the U.S.-Mexico border.

This investment better positions Transplace and Celtic to capitalize on the growing use of intermodal, which grew by 4.6 percent domestically in 2013 over the previous year.1 Even with the steady increase year-over-year, there is still tremendous room for growth. In a recent report, Raymond James and Associates referred to Mexico as the “final frontier” for the North American intermodal market, stating, “Intermodal over the U.S./Mexico border remains in its infancy with market share in the low single digit rates.”

The diversified financial services holding company attributes the slow development to lack of infrastructure. However, with recent investments from two key railroads in Mexico, they believe there could be accelerated growth in the Mexican market, stating “We believe the simplicity and economics of intermodal will drive tremendous modal conversion over time.”2

“The use of intermodal transportation continues to grow across North America, but there are few companies that have an intermodal marketing company presence across all three North American countries,” said Steven Golich, president, Celtic International. “With access to over 60,000 pieces of rail equipment and extensive experience working in Mexico, we provide our customers with the intermodal capabilities, industry expertise and capacity to build and execute an effective transportation strategy across multiple modes.”
