LOUISVILLE, Ky.--()--Each May, families gather round to celebrate one of the most important people in their lives— Mom —and give her the day off she deserves. But how many times has a well-intentioned Mother’s Day gesture gone slightly awry? To make sure it doesn’t happen this year, KFC is giving Mom a break from dinner prep and offering customers a free family-sized cake (in rich double chocolate chip or sweet lemon) with the purchase of a 10-piece meal or larger, now through May 25. In addition, KFC is asking fans to share their past Mother’s Day mishaps for a chance at redemption to win a free KFC meal and cake for the family to enjoy on Mom’s big day.

“We all have the best intentions when doing nice things for our moms on Mother’s Day…but sometimes we burn the toast, forget the flowers, or make the wrong reservation—it happens,” said Kevin Hochman, Chief Marketing Officer for KFC U.S. “We want to give our fans a chance to make up for previous Mother’s Day gaffes— with a delicious KFC meal complete with free cake, so mom will really get the chance to take the day off this year.”

As part of the brand’s #HowDoYouKFC movement— and in honor of the years we left Mom saying, “it’s the thought that counts”— KFC is asking fans to submit photos and stories of previous Mother’s Day faux pas using the hashtag #thoughtthatcounts via Twitter today through Thursday, May 8. KFC will identify 100 winners from these submissions at random and gift them $20 in KFC Gift Checks, for a KFC meal complete with a free family-sized cake (if purchased by May 25). A tasty treat for the whole family and freedom from dinner duty for mom – the best gift of all!
