thredUP Adds Handbags to its Women’s Shopping Experience

Consumers can now turn to the fashion resale site for all of their designer clothing, shoes and accessory needs

SAN FRANCISCO--()--thredUP.com, the largest online resale shop for women’s and children’s clothing, today announced the addition of handbags as a new shopping category on the site, continuing thredUP’s recent expansion into higher end, contemporary women’s fashion. Customers that have been anticipating the launch since thredUP started buying handbags earlier this year, can now shop the on-trend styles at an average discount of 70 percent off retail.

“Bringing handbags to thredUP has been one of my top priorities since joining the company,” said Kristy Atkins, Senior Director of Merchandising at thredUP, former site Merchandiser and Marketing Manager at Piperlime. “Women love their accessories, especially handbags, which can be prohibitively expensive full price, so I’m excited to make popular styles and brands accessible to our customers. With the introduction of handbags, we’re getting closer to our goal of being a complete resource to outfit savvy shoppers head to toe.”

thredUP’s handbag collection launches today with nearly two thousand pieces in a range of styles including hobos, crossbody bags, satchels, clutches and more with an average price point of 75 dollars. The launch collection has significant inventory from brands including Kate Spade New York, Coach, Cole Haan, Marc by Marc Jacobs and Michael Kors – in addition to bags from coveted fashion labels like Prada, Alexander Wang, Chloé, Hermès and Louis Vuitton.

“It’s been a really exciting quarter for the thredUP team and for our customers, first with the launch of our designer brand X Collection and now with handbags,” said James Reinhart, CEO and Co-Founder of thredUP. “Accessories and shoes have been our fastest-selling categories and I expect handbags to be right alongside them. thredUP’s leading operations model enables us to sell handbags at low prices that customers love and compensate sellers with payouts of up to 80 percent of the resale value, the highest in the industry.”

To show its zero tolerance policy for counterfeit handbags and designer clothing, thredUP has added experienced authenticity and pricing specialists to its merchandising team. The specialists are trained to examine each bag for authenticity details such as quality construction, manufacturing information, serial numbers and appropriate purchase documentation from sellers when relevant.
