DULLES, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Southland Industries is proud to announce that Scott Winkler, Vice President of its Mid-Atlantic Division’s Engineering Department, recently obtained certification in Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design, or CPTED. The CPTED Practitioner Seminar in which Mr. Winkler participated is a continuing education course providing certification that is recognized nationally as well as internationally.
Studying under Dr. Randall I. Atlas at the Florida Atlantic University Institute for Design and Construction, Mr. Winkler completed over 30 classroom hours and 60 out-of-classroom hours before obtaining this certification. As a well-known architect, criminologist, and Certified Protection Professional, Dr. Atlas uses this course to impart his expertise in helping to safeguard facilities and their occupants from real-world threats like street crime, workplace violence, and terrorism.
Mr. Winkler plans to use his CPTED certification as a practical resource throughout his work in the architectural, engineering, and construction community in order to effectively address critical infrastructure protection. With thorough knowledge of CPTED, he can work closely with architects to ensure facilities are designed and planned to accommodate specialized security systems, prevent crime, and offer blast mitigation, as well as chemical, biological, and nuclear threat protection. With ultimate responsibility for the mechanical engineering activities of Southland’s Mid-Atlantic Division, Mr. Winkler is accustomed to designing innovative solutions and is familiar with the concerns of allied disciplines.
