IMMACULATE HEART CATHOLIC RADIO COMING TO LOS ANGELES

Immaculate Heart Radio (IHR), the West’s leading broadcaster of educational and religious programming from a Catholic perspective, announced today that it has reached terms with Trans America Broadcasting and filed a contract with the Federal Communication Commission to transfer control of KTYM 1460-AM to Immaculate Heart Radio.

With its 5,000 watt signal, the acquisition of KTYM will allow Immaculate Heart Radio to reach 11 million new listeners in Los Angeles and Orange Counties, 4.5 million of whom are Catholic. The transaction is expected to close sometime this summer. When it does, Immaculate Heart Radio’s potential listener base will increase by more than a third, to over 46 million people.

“We are excited to welcome Immaculate Heart Radio to Los Angeles and look forward to experiencing the important role that radio can play in strengthening the faith and identity of our people,” said the Most Rev. José H. Gomez, Archbishop of Los Angeles. “Bringing Immaculate Heart Radio to Southern California will make families and parishes stronger and help us share the Gospel with those who may have left the Church or given up on God.”

“Every broadcaster wants to be in Los Angeles and being here has been our goal for nearly 20 years,” said Doug Sherman, president of IHR. “This is a hugely important to Immaculate Heart Radio. Adding KTYM to our roster of stations will allow us to grow our potential audience by more than a third.”

“Without the help of Archbishop Gomez, this would never have happened,” said Sherman. “We are extremely grateful for his support and the support of the Catholic community throughout Southern California.”

IHR’s popular programming includes “Catholic Answers Live,” a listener call-in show giving Catholics and non-Catholics alike a chance to ask questions and find out more about Catholic practice and belief; “Right Here, Right Now With Patrick Madrid,” a fast-paced show with practical advice for living a faithful Catholic life; “The Doctor is In,” offering parenting advice from psychologist Dr. Ray Guarendi; and “The Archbishop’s Hour” a daily talk show giving listeners the latest news and information directly from their local diocese or archdiocese.

IHR (www.ihradio.com) is a growing non-profit organization of listener-supported, non-commercial radio stations broadcasting throughout the Western United States. Beginning with a broadcast signal launched in 1997 from a warehouse in Reno, IHR has grown to include 31 outlets that air inspirational Catholic content 24-hours a day/seven days a week, able to currently reach 35 million people in 5 western states and Hawaii.
