NatureBox finds success by skipping the grocery store, on track to ship 3 million orders this year

Canaan Partners led the financing, with continued support from existing investors General Catalyst Partners and Softbank Capital. Two years ago, Gautam Gupta and Ken Chen had the idea to turn their passion for food into a line of snacks that serves the simple purposes of being healthy and delicious. At the same time, they knew that retail shelf space was dominated by large CPG brands. Understanding there are discerning consumers who want options beyond the grocery store shelf, they decided to go direct-to-consumer and sell NatureBox snacks online. The company shipped 50K orders in its first year and experienced 20X growth in 2013 with 1 million orders shipped. NatureBox is now one of America’s fastest growing snack brands. The website receives over 1 million monthly visitors, there are 850K fans on NatureBox’s Facebook page, and the company is on track to ship 3 million boxes this year.
