PRIUM’s Mark Pew Discusses Pharmacy Intervention on MSAs during NAMSAP Webinar on April 11

ATLANTA--()--PRIUM’s Senior Vice President Mark Pew will present “A Package of Evidence for MSAs” on an National Alliance of Medicare Set-Aside Professionals (NAMSAP) webinar on April 11.

According to NCCI, prescription drugs accounted for 18 percent of all workers’ compensation medical costs in 2013. Polypharmacy, the use of too many or redundant drugs, is common on claims headed for MSAs and the lifetime pharmacy calculation can be hundreds of thousands of dollars.

“Pharmacy costs can represent as much as 70 percent of total Medicare Set-Aside calculations,” said Pew. “Reaching an agreement with treating physicians on a reduced, clinically appropriate drug regimen is the first step, but The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) requires proof that the claimant has reached maximum medical improvement with the revised drug therapy before accepting an MSA.”

Pew’s webinar will identify the contents of a “package of evidence” to provide that proof, methods for compiling the data, and steps that attendees can implement to be more proactive in this process.

Part of NAMSAP’s webinar series, the “Package of Evidence for MSAs” airs from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. EDT on April 11, 2014. This webinar has applied for one CE credit hour of MSCC, CLCP and CMSP and there is a $63 fee for NAMSAP members and $83 registration fee for non-members. Registration information can be found at www.namsap.org/online-education.
