NMS Labs Launches Testing Solution to Detect NBOMes, a Deadly Next Generation Designer Drug

WILLOW GROVE, Pa.--()--NMS Labs announces the launch of its test offering for the synthetic phenethylamines, known as NBOMes, recently banned by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA). The qualitative test detects 25B-NBOMe, 25C-NBOMe, 25H-NBOMe, and 25I-NBOMe, which are some of the newest generation of compounds being sold on the streets today.

The use of designer drugs is still on the rise. According to the American Association of Poison Control Centers (AAPCC), over 4,000 calls have been made to hospital emergency rooms and poison control centers regarding synthetic drugs since 2013. Poison centers have seen designer drugs exposures in a wide range of ages, from younger than 6 to older than 59.

More frequently, law enforcement and hospitals are facing difficult problems when dealing with designer drug overdoses. What drug users think they are taking are too often not what they are actually swallowing — Fake LSD may actually be NBOMes, while Molly may actually be Methylone. NMS Labs continues to dedicate resources to remain one step ahead of unreliable drug manufacturers and drug dealers. The laboratory can confirm the presence of the latest generation in designer drugs, giving customers the newest tests available to help corroborate assessments and use in prosecutions and case closure.

NMS Labs offers a wide range of topics and tools to help law enforcement, healthcare professionals and parents understand this illicit market and provide insights into the dynamic nature of designer drug trends:

  • Visit DesignerDrugTrends.org to find current information about local laws, national drug scheduling laws, drug sightings, scientific changes, emerging designer drugs and testing trends. Knowledge sharing keeps us one step ahead of drug manufacturers and dealers.
  • Another tool is the Designer Drug Trends Report, a periodic publication highlighting synthetic drugs emerging among illicit drug users. Recently updated, the Designer Drug Trends Report reveals that emerging compounds like 25B-NBOMe, 25C-NBOMe, 25H-NBOMe, and 25I-NBOMe among others found in today’s designer drug products are more potent and were not common six months ago. Through the use of NMS Labs own data, the Designer Drug Trends Report shows positivity rates along with relevant medical and news stories about the unanticipated side effects associated with these chemicals.

NMS Labs is on the forefront of identifying emerging compounds found in designer drugs and has an eye on the future through its Center for Innovation, Designer Drugs Initiative.
