SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP) announced the official launch of their organization today in conjunction with the CSUN 29th Annual International Technology and Persons with Disabilities Conference in San Diego, California.
IAAP has focused on the need for increasing the skills of professionals to enable greater adoption and implementation of accessible products, services and content for persons with disabilities. There is a need for all industries to look closely at their accessibility strategy and strive to enable their teams to incorporate accessibility into their current practice. It is also critical to grow the ranks of professionals who are knowledgeable and aware of accessibility. The role of IAAP is to create a global effort to advance this profession.
“We are extremely pleased to launch the organization with twenty nine founding member institutions from six countries. They provide a breadth of perspectives from multiple industries and bring international focus – both of which are key to pursuing our mission,” said Rob Sinclair, President of IAAP and Chief Accessibility Officer at Microsoft. “This organization could not have gone from concept to reality without the support of these founding members and the hundreds of people already working in the field of accessibility who have donated thousands of hours to this effort. We are grateful for the tremendous collaboration that has brought us to this point, and we look forward to welcoming new individual and organizational members to help us advance the accessibility profession.”
The IAAP mission is to define, promote and improve the accessibility profession globally through networking, education and certification in order to enable the creation of accessible products, content and services. IAAP is focusing on professional development, organizational development and building a global community.
