NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Empirical Media Advisors today announced the appointment of Jim Friedlich as chief executive officer effective immediately. Friedlich succeeds Jack Griffin, who was appointed CEO of Tribune Publishing and begins his new role on April 14.
Friedlich previously held the position of President and Chief Operating Officer and co-founded Empirical in 2011 with Griffin. The New York-based firm advises media companies such as Thomson Reuters, Newsweek, IAC, Bloomberg, and Tribune Corporation on their growth strategies. Empirical also provides proprietary market research and information products to its customers.
“Empirical will continue to expand both our team and our services, advising major media companies on a global basis," said Friedlich. “Jim is a superb executive with great insights into our industry. He will continue building Empirical into a successful business that has filled an important void in the market,” said Griffin. “As media companies continue to transition to digital and navigate a difficult environment, Empirical is needed more than ever.”
Friedlich is a veteran media executive and investor. From 1990 to 2000, he managed the global advertising sales, consumer marketing and business development of The Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones & Company newspapers, magazines, Web sites, cable TV channels and conferences. In 2001, Friedlich co-founded ZelnickMedia, a New York-based media investment and management firm, leading investments in publishing, information services, and digital media for the company for over a decade, before co-founding Empirical Media.
