Reliant Rounds-Up Fun for 2014 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo

– Student Art Contest and Rodeo-themed Electricity Plan Give Back to the Community –

HOUSTON--()--Back in the saddle again, Reliant and its parent company NRG will bring their popular community contests, shows and offers to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo March 4-23. Among the fairgrounds favorites: student recognition programs, giveaways and an encore of two popular Rodeo-themed electricity plans that either provide Justin Boots or a donation to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Educational Fund on customers’ behalf.

“The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is filled with Texas heritage, and we love to support the traditions and people in our local community,” said Elizabeth Killinger, president of Reliant and NRG Texas Retail. “Whether we’re encouraging and enabling children to reach their highest potential or lighting up the night for delighted visitors, it’s about forming personal connections with our customers and providing them the power for their home and their life.”

Supporting Students

The Reliant Student Recognition Program recognizes kindergarten through eighth grade students from schools in the Greater Houston area. Students were entered in a drawing to receive tickets to the March 9 Rodeo Houston concert. Local teachers, principals, and parents nominated up to 10 students based on outstanding academic achievement and most improved performance. Two lucky students will receive four VIP tickets, and another 19 students will each be awarded four suite tickets.

The Reliant Power of Art contest will display 26 local elementary students’ rodeo and cowboy-themed artwork at the event grounds and online. Voting will take place March 10-28. The winning two artists will receive $1,000 toward art supplies for their schools, $1,000 toward art supplies for their districts and Rodeo gift bags each containing a $100 gift card and plaque.

Kicking Up the Fun

Reliant has rounded up special treatment and giveaways that will delight cowboys and cowgirls of all ages.

  • On-site ticket giveaway: Reliant will be on-site at the Reliant Park grounds offering visitors chances to win free tickets for that night’s performance.
  • Power up and relax: Two lounges – one in the center and one in the stadium – let visitors sit back and relax or get a battery boost for their cellphones through NRG Portable Power stations. The NRG Portable Power stations are designed to ensure people are fully charged and connected at times they need it most. There will be 20 stations located throughout the rodeo.

Lasso Energy Deals

Even those who don’t attend the rodeo can share a little bit of the Texas spirit. All year round, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo members and all other supporters can sign up for the Reliant Secure Advantage 12 plan and Reliant will make a $50 donation to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Educational Fund. Last year, the response of new customers allowed Reliant to make a $25,000 donation that helped Texas youth attend colleges and universities through scholarships. This year will support more deserving students in their educational goals.

For another option, the Reliant Rodeo Plan includes competitive 12-month pricing and a voucher for a free pair of Justin Boots for new customers. For more information about the Reliant plans, visit www.reliant.com/rodeoplan.
