GreenLight Biosciences Announces New Partnership with Bayer CropScience

Breakthrough Technologies to be Applied in Agricultural Biosciences

MEDFORD, Mass.--()--GreenLight Biosciences and Bayer CropScience announced today a new partnership to explore applications of GreenLight’s proprietary cell-free technologies to increase the productivity of potential manufacturing processes. GreenLight’s assets can enable a new safe, fast, energy efficient and economical way of manufacturing crop protection products through bacteria which have been engineered to produce enzymes for cell-free chemical synthesis processes.

“At GreenLight Biosciences, we want to be at the forefront of creating new, non-petroleum based processes. Specifically we aim to replace the use of fossil hydrocarbons and expensive natural precursors in the production of chemicals with sustainable feedstocks,” said Andrey Zarur, Ph.D., Chairman and CEO, GreenLight Biosciences. “This unique partnership will couple the potential of our cell-free platform for efficient manufacturing with the remarkable innovations of Bayer CropScience, which has one of the most advanced research and development organizations in the world.”

“We also contribute to sustainability by continually improving our production and supply chain processes,” said Dr. Axel Trautwein, Head of Small Molecules Research at Bayer CropScience. “Collaborations with external research partners play a major role at Bayer CropScience. Working with GreenLight allows us to explore new possibilities to achieve this goal.”

Financial terms of the agreement between GreenLight Biosciences and Bayer CropScience were not disclosed.
