Novinda Executes Contract to Supply Non-carbon Amended Silicates for Coal-Fired Power Plant Mercury Removal

DENVER--()--Novinda Corporation, a leader in non-carbon mercury removal technologies, announced today that it has been awarded a five-year contract by Black Hills Power, Inc., an electric utility subsidiary of Black Hills Corporation. The contract is to supply Amended Silicates® HgX (AS-HgX) to remove mercury from four coal-fired power generation units at the Neil Simpson complex operated by Black Hills Power in Gillette, Wyoming.

Designed specifically to address and exceed the mercury removal rates of the EPA’s stringent Mercury and Air Toxic Standards (MATS), the Amended Silicates products have delivered sustained performance in full-scale tests at 35 power plants. AS-HgX has proven to be extremely effective, as well as cost competitive, removing mercury with two to three times the efficiency of the market’s standard mercury removal products.

The Amended Silicates platform, known for preserving the beneficial use of fly ash, having exceptional SO3 tolerance, being less corrosive to the balance of plant and operating in a broad range of operating temperatures, delivers robust performance across a variety of coal-fired power generation environments.

“We are honored to have been selected for this long-term supply contract. The customer’s decision is a testament to AS-HgX’s exceptional performance and cost effectiveness, as well as the dependability of the Novinda organization,” said Ed Williams, Novinda’s CEO.

“Black Hills continuously makes responsible investments in technology to help us comply with state and federal environmental policies,” said Mark Lux, Vice President and GM Power Delivery at Black Hills Corporation. “Amended Silicates has proven to be a consistent performer in achieving our mercury removal objectives and Novinda’s technology delivers the desired results with less than half the material required by alternative products, minimizing the emissions control costs for our customers.”

Novinda is committed to developing and commercializing innovative technologies that address air quality and environmental compliance, while minimizing the economic impact to power generation companies and their customers.
