Scratch Wireless Announces Availability of Unlimited Free Mobile Service

Consumers can request an invite for groundbreaking free smartphone service

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--()--Scratch Wireless, the world’s first truly free mobile service, today announced the availability of the first Scratch-enabled smartphone, the Motorola Photon Q. Priced at $269, the smartphone includes the ground-breaking, totally free Scratch Wireless service which lets consumers access unlimited free talk, text and data over Wi-Fi networks, without ever signing a contract or paying a penny for service.

Scratch Wireless is utilizing a “Wi-Fi First” strategy that takes advantage of a fast growing number of Wi-Fi network access points and hotspots, a number which is expected to reach 5.8 million by 2015 (up from 1.3 million in 2011). The Scratch model is a simple one – text, voice and data services are always free when a user is on Wi-Fi and texting is free, always. Through an agreement with Sprint, a user is able to make phone calls or access data services over the nationwide Sprint 3G or 4G LTE and WiMAX networks when they are away from Wi-Fi for a small fee but never have a long-term contract or obligation to pay.

The Motorola Photon Q features a 4.3” display, dual high-resolution cameras, access to the entire Google Play Store, and much more. By selling this phone at a reasonable price without a contract, plan or requirement for paid access, Scratch is transforming the industry by taking the cost and complexity out of traditional mobile services and offering a completely free wireless service.

“Scratch Wireless has created an innovative and compelling offer that should be highly competitive within the wireless marketplace,” said Karen Freitag, vice president – Global Sales at Sprint. “When coupling Sprint’s history of MVNO enablement with Scratch’s appetite for disruption, the consumer will be the ultimate beneficiary.”

In October, the company launched with $5 million in funding and a vision to revolutionize the mobile phone industry with its “Wi-Fi First” mobile service. To request an invitation to purchase Scratch's Motorola Photon Q, please visit: http://scratchwireless.com/invite.php

“We love our smartphones, but we don’t love paying upwards of $100 a month for them,” said Alan Berrey, Scratch CEO and co-founder. “There is Wi-Fi practically everywhere, and it’s free, so why not use it? We built Scratch Wireless from the ground up to take full advantage of Wi-Fi, to redefine the traditional mobile experience, and to offer free unlimited smartphone service.”
