American InterContinental University’s Master of Education Program Among the First Fully Online Programs to Receive TEAC Accreditation

SCHAUMBURG, Ill.--()--American InterContinental University (AIU), an established institution offering both campus-based and online degrees, today announced that its Master of Education program is one of the first fully online M.Ed. programs to be accredited by the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC).

TEAC recently granted initial two-year accreditation to AIU’s Master of Education program, becoming one of 191 programs in 149 institutions of higher education or alternative educator preparation programs to be designated by the council.

“With an accredited online option, AIU allows professional educators to more easily pursue a master’s degree amid their busy lives, while knowing their program has been held to rigorous and comprehensive TEAC evaluation standards,” said Dr. George Miller, president of AIU. “AIU offers educators seeking professional advancement a serious, industry-focused education that helps them maintain a healthy work-life balance, with flexible schedules, customized content and personalized education technology.”

Accreditation by TEAC is based on an extensive evaluation of an institution’s education program – including campus visits and a confidential survey of program faculty and students – by a group of TEAC representatives and external educators. TEAC is one of two agencies that voted this year to merge, creating the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), a new agency that will be the single specialized accreditor for educator preparation in the United States.

According to TEAC, fewer than half the nation’s programs that prepare professional educators (pre-K through 12) for the schools are currently accredited.

AIU’s Master of Education program includes specializations in the following:

  • Adult Education and Training
  • Classroom Integration of Technology
  • Curriculum and Instruction for Educators
  • Educational Assessment and Evaluation
  • Instructional Design and Technology
  • Leadership of Educational Organizations
