PLANTATION, Fla.--()--Hundreds of musically-talented youngsters will represent their schools and participate in a once-in-a-lifetime experience, thanks, in part, to DHL Express. The world’s leading international express services provider will carefully transport more than 1,300 pieces of equipment and instruments for 19 U.S. high school and university marching bands and one in Panama, so they will be able to participate in the London New Year’s Day Parade on January 1, 2014.

More than 500,000 people are expected to pack London's famous streets, with millions more watching on a live global telecast for the turn of year tradition from Piccadilly to Parliament Square that features more than 8,500 performers from numerous countries.

"As the specialists in international shipping, we’re delighted to help manage the complex regulatory requirements involved and provide our international expertise, so these young band members can be at ease knowing their instruments will arrive on-time and in perfect condition for the event,” said Cain Moodie, Vice President of Operations for DHL.

During the week of December 16, 2013, DHL Express will collect clarinets, tubas, snare drums, trumpets, saxophones, trombones and other musical instruments from each participating school and load everything onto special aircraft containers to be transported to the DHL Americas Hub at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport (CVG) or designated International Gateway facility. From there, the instrument shipments will be uplifted to the UK, where DHL Express will provide customs brokerage services and warehousing until they are ready for retrieval by band members in time for pre-parade rehearsals.

As the exclusive transportation provider for the U.S. marching bands, DHL Express developed a full-service shipping solution that includes customized labeling; dedicated, proactive monitoring for each shipment; additional trucks and flight segments and synchronized special handling.

After the successful completion of the January 1 event, DHL will orchestrate the complex exercise in reverse, coordinating the return shipment of all 1,327 instruments to each of the participating 19 schools in 15 states, and one in Panama.

Participating schools in the 2014 London New Year’s Day Parade include: Barrington High School, Barrington, IL; Cartwright's B.E.S.T.
