Humana and Regional HealthPlus Partner to Launch Accountable Care Relationship in Spartanburg, South Carolina

Relationship designed to help improve the health and well-being of Humana Medicare Advantage members in the Greater Spartanburg area

LOUISVILLE, Ky. & SPARTANBURG, S.C.--()--Regional HealthPlus and Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM), one of the country’s leading health and well-being companies, have teamed up to develop an Accountable Care relationship aimed at improving health outcomes for Humana Medicare Advantage members.

Humana’s Accountable Care Continuum is a pay-for-value system, focused on promoting evidence-based, high-quality health care, which can lead to improved medical member outcomes, a better customer experience and lower costs.

Humana’s newest Accountable Care relationship with Regional HealthPlus, which will benefit Humana’s HMO and PPO Medicare Advantage members, includes Spartanburg Medical Center, Village Hospital and Spartanburg Hospital for Restorative Care, as well as its four ambulatory surgery centers and more than 500 physicians.

“We are excited about our new relationship with Humana,” said Chris Skinner, Executive Director for Regional HealthPlus. “Regional HealthPlus has been a leader in patient care coordination in the upstate and this opportunity with Humana provides an avenue to expand our services to reach more patients.”

The new Humana-Regional HealthPlus agreement includes a value-based incentive that aligns provider rewards with keeping patients healthy. Through this Accountable Care relationship, patients will have the opportunity to receive more advanced and personalized patient care, benefiting from tools, such as real-time gap in care identification, predictive modeling and electronic health records, all of which ensure better patient care coordination, more cost-effective, quality care and a world-class patient experience for Humana members.

“This Accountable Care partnership with Regional HealthPlus is a natural fit for Humana as we already share a focus on integrated health and patient-centered care,” said Dr. Bill Hauser, Humana’s Retail Market Vice President of Senior Products for Georgia and South Carolina. “We believe our Medicare Advantage members in the Greater Spartanburg area will greatly benefit from this agreement.”

Humana’s Accountable Care Continuum is guided by the company’s integrated health approach; a defined, measurable patient population, and pay-for results based on improved clinical outcomes and reduced costs.

Humana has a 25-year Accountable Care relationship history with more than one million members that are cared for by 33,000 primary care physicians, in more than 900 Accountable Care relationships across 40 states and Puerto Rico. An additional 600,000 medical members participate in initial phase value-based arrangements.
