Twitch Becomes #1 Video Site in comScore’s Gaming Category

comScore milestone arrives in advance of impending PlayStation 4 and Xbox One integrations, positioning Twitch as the dominant player in gaming video

SAN FRANCISCO--()--Twitch, the world’s leading video platform and community for gamers, today announced it has been rated as the largest video site in the video games category according to comScore, a leading analytics measurement company. According to comScore’s October Video Metrix report, Twitch was ranked high above the closest runner-ups in almost every category. Twitch’s popularity is expected to continue to soar when the brand makes its debut this month on Xbox One, the all-in-one gaming and entertainment system from Microsoft Corp., and PlayStation®4 (PS4™) system, Sony Computer Entertainment’s (SCE) next generation computer entertainment system.

According to comScore’s October Video Metrix report for Games and Gaming Information, Twitch has both the largest audience and the most-engaged users among all sites catering to the video game audience. This is reflected in an array of statistics. Compared to its nearest competitor, Twitch boasts more than ten times the amount of videos created, more than five times more videos watched per viewer, and five times more minutes watched per viewer.

“The growing popularity of live video on Twitch has been apparent in all corners of the video game industry, ranging from individual gamers to the biggest publishing, developing and media brands,” said Jonathan Simpson-Bint, Chief Revenue Officer, Twitch. “While comScore’s top ranking of Twitch confirmed what we already saw coming in terms of the broadcasting and spectating trend, it’s just the beginning. We expect the movement to really take off when the broader console community gets its first taste of the live experience on the Xbox One and PS4.”

Since launching in June 2011, Twitch has become the primary live video platform and community for the vast and varied video game ecosystem. The platform currently attracts more than 600,000 unique broadcasters per month catering to more than 45 million unique viewers who watch more than 100 minutes per person per day. As a result of its vast video game endemic audience, the broadcasting community spans game developers, game publishers, media outlets, event and charity organizations, individual gamers and the entire eSports scene, including the top players, teams, leagues and talk shows.
