PlayStation 4 Lead in Next-Gen Purchase Intention Globally

SANTA MONICA, Calif.--()--Interpret, a leading entertainment, media and technology market research firm, today announced new findings from GameByte®, its syndicated semi-annual study of gamers in ten countries. The latest data (collected in late October) reveals that across key video game markets, the PlayStation 4 leads purchase interest by a significant margin.

The lead is especially strong in Europe and Japan, but even in the US and UK, where the Xbox 360 enjoyed a comfortable lead over the PS3 during the seventh generation, more gamers are now interested in purchasing a PS4 than an Xbox One. The healthy interest in Russia and South Korea for both consoles signals positive trends for console market expansion.

“On the eve of the PS4 launch, Sony’s clear messaging and early tradeshow successes continue to carry momentum,” commented Yuanzhe (Michael) Cai, SVP of Research at Interpret. “However, when we look outside of the US and UK, the Xbox One actually has a slight edge at attracting buyers who don’t belong to the Xbox ecosystem during the current generation; in other words a larger percentage of people intending to buy the Xbox One do not already own an Xbox 360.”
