ATOMS Hits the Market, Right in Time for the Holidays

Kickstarter and Venture Backed Smart Building Blocks Help Kids Build to Their Imaginations

BOULDER, Colo.--()--Right in time for holiday gift giving, Seamless Toy Company announced today that ATOMS, the smart building blocks that captured the imagination of Kickstarter backers and kids around the world, are now commercially available at www.myatoms.com. Seamless also announced an impressive list of seed investors.

With ATOMS, kids can make a bashful talking pet monster that loves hiding under tables, or they can make their sister’s stuffed cat “meow” by waving a magic wand. ATOMS enables kids to create things as fast as they can imagine them.

“We created ATOMS to narrow the gap between what kids can dream up and what they can make,” said Michael Rosenblatt, founder, Seamless Toy Company. “From our Kickstarter backers to the kids and parents we’ve met all over the country this year, we’ve heard over and over again that ATOMS fills a hole in the market. Kids want to build things that really work, and there have not been a lot of options – until ATOMS.”

Kids as young as 6 can master ATOMS within minutes of opening the box, requiring little, if any, parental oversight. ATOMS come in starter sets that contain everything kids need to build monsters, magic wands, and robots; and the ATOMS themselves are also designed to integrate with LEGOs, Barbies, and action figures, giving old toys new lives that grow with a child’s imagination. ATOMS are durably enclosed with no exposed elements, have no magnets, and come at a cost lower than other interactive building toys on the market.

Seamless is also introducing an ATOMS iOS App that will be available later this month, which enables kids to build beyond by adding virtual ATOMS on their Bluetooth-enabled Apple iPad, iPod, or iPhone. Screen-based ATOMS can be used to control real ATOMS from across the room (excellent for pranking a big brother), and alternatively, real ATOMS can be used via the same Bluetooth link to remotely control features on their iOS device such as the camera and music player.

Beginning today, the company is taking new orders via its website [www.myatoms.com]. The company will produce a limited number of sets for holiday delivery, available on a first-come, first-served basis, with production expanding in 2014:

  • QUARKS Sets: Use ATOMS and included parts to make Furby-sized monsters that talk, react to light, move around, and are controlled by your iOS device. Quarks sets range from $79.99 to $119.99.
  • ATOMagic Sets: Bring new adventures to kid-scale play by using ATOMS and included parts to build magic wands that beam across the room to activate ATOMS creations. You can also use sound effects and the Popper ATOM to play pranks on siblings. ATOMagic Sets range from $49.99 to $119.99.
  • Individual ATOMS: Buy any ATOM individually to expand your collection, or build from scratch. Most individual ATOMS are under $10.

Seamless Toy Company, the company behind ATOMS, also announced today an impressive group of financial backers. Individual partners at the private equity fund Elevation Partners have played a large role in the company’s $2.6M seed round. Those investors include former Apple Software CTO Avie Tevanian, former Apple CFO Fred Anderson, and Bono. Joining this distinguished group are venture capital firms Promus Ventures, Founder Collective, Proof Ventures, and several notable angel backers.
