St. Thomas Aquinas High School Dedicates Multimillion Dollar Innovation Center

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.--()--One of the most advanced in-school innovation centers in the country has been dedicated at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

A nationally recognized academic and athletic powerhouse, St. Thomas Aquinas High School is implementing a series of innovative educational initiatives that are setting a standard for 21st century learning.

The new multimillion dollar, cutting edge Innovation Center uses interactive high-tech experiences to stimulate creativity in students and faculty. The technology, furniture and lighting throughout the five glass-walled classrooms and common areas create a learning environment where students can perform at the highest level through the most current interactive technologies.

Each state-of-the-art classroom is equipped to foster exploratory learning with interactive touchscreen monitors and projectors on every wall; high definition video conferencing capabilities for interactive long distance learning, virtual field trips and guest lecturers; and mobile ergonomically designed chairs, desks and tables to allow for numerous classroom configurations. The goal is to keep students engaged and actively learning.

One of the most advanced learning environments of its kind in the nation, the Center demonstrates the high school’s commitment to furthering educational opportunities for students. St. Thomas partnered with Cisco, Samsung and United Data Technologies to create the Innovation Center.

“The basics of education demand openness to new ideas and communication capabilities and that is what we do here at St. Thomas Aquinas High School,” said Monsignor Vincent Kelly, supervising principal at St. Thomas. “We must continue to innovate. The technology affords students the tremendous opportunity to learn, think and communicate. In this global world, students must be well prepared.”

In keeping with the high-tech theme, a virtual ribbon cutting took place, which was performed by Archbishop Thomas Wenski.

The excitement of the day was shared by faculty, staff, students, board members and community leaders. Participating companies responsible for the project included Herman Construction, Cisco, UDT, Samsung and Anderson Architecture.
