National Amputee Golf Championships Tee Off in Lincoln, Nebraska, Aug. 11-16, 2013

LINCOLN, Neb.--()--Presented by Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital and the Lincoln Convention & Visitors Bureau, in conjunction with Wilderness Ridge Golf Course, the 65th Annual National Amputee Golf Open Championship will be held in Lincoln, Nebraska August 11-16, 2013.

Some of the best amputee golfers from around the nation and world, including Japan, China and Canada, plan to attend and will inspire spectators at this free event.

The championship amputee tournament will be a 54-hole stroke play event for invited qualified players. Current National Amputee Golf Association (NAGA) membership is required for participation in the tournament. The 36-hole Senior National Amputee Golf Open Championships and the International Cup will also run concurrently. All players have the option to play from the championship tees, including ladies and seniors, for all three days.

The entry deadline has been extended to July 31.

Some of the accomplished amputee golfers registered are:

  • Tournament host and Nebraska resident Dick Krapfl, an educator with Lincoln Public Schools and last year’s tournament champion.
  • Mike Reeder, a Vietnam veteran amputee who was featured in 2011 on ESPN and ABC as the first wheelchair golfer ever to play the Old Course at St. Andrews.
  • Ms. Kim Moore, a PGA Golf Professional who has won nine consecutive titles since playing in her first US National Championship in 2003.
  • Arm amputee, Lucian Newman, III, M.D., a general surgeon from Alabama in current practice.
  • Martin Ebel, a NAGA legal advisor who lost the lower half of his body in a severe accident with a piece of heavy equipment.
  • Chad Pfeifer, an Army veteran who lost a leg in Iraq and has won the Wounded Warrior Golf Tournament the last two years.
  • Woody Walker, suffered lower leg injuries in a car crash in 1971, and became an amputee in 1973. He has played for four national titles in the U.S., among many international competitions.
