Eaton Tapped to Enhance Lighting and Energy Efficiency at Pentagon

PITTSBURGH--()--Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton today announced it has received multiple service contracts from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to evaluate and modernize lighting systems at the Pentagon, the headquarters of the U.S. Department of Defense located in Arlington County, Va. The contracts, which have an estimated value of $3.2 million and completion date of early 2014, will help the Pentagon meet energy efficiency goals, increase operational reliability and reduce maintenance costs.

Under the contracts, Eaton will provide a comprehensive lighting audit for the 6.5 million square foot office complex, one of the world’s largest office buildings with workspace for approximately 23,000 military and civilian employees and hub of planning and execution of U.S. defense systems. Eaton will use the lighting analysis to develop a master lighting modernization plan, including a detailed engineering, environmental and economic analysis of all recommended projects.

“Drawing on our long and successful experience with major government customers, Eaton will help enhance and modernize the energy efficiency of this iconic and essential building,” said John Stampfel, vice president and general manager, Electrical Engineering Services and Systems Division, Eaton.

In addition to the lighting audit and modernization plan, Eaton will also complete previously identified projects aimed at reduced costs and increased efficiency. These include the replacement of fluorescent lighting with highly efficient light emitting diode (LED) solutions, incorporation of daylight control sensors and adjustment of lighting schedules.

The project is one of several contract awards that Eaton has received from government organizations, including $10 million in retro-commissioning services for U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs medical campuses and $1 million to enhance the electrical safety and reliability of the Federal Aviation Administration headquarters in Washington, D.C.

The Pentagon project will be led by Eaton’s Energy Solutions Group, which performs energy-focused engineering, construction, and consulting services for a wide range of market segments, including government, health care, education, utilities, commercial, industrial and other institutional facilities.
