Blur, Honeycomb – Altamira’s Featured Open-Source Technologies

MCLEAN, Va.--()--Altamira Technologies Corporation, the result of a merger between Near Infinity Corporation and Invertix Corporation, is a recognized leader in the open source technology space. Altamira’s capabilities span a broad technology continuum and include offerings in mobility, cloud computing and big data, analytics, visualization, cyber, and communications and sensors.

Altamira’s partners are often citing the company’s work as innovative and relevant across the open source community. A recent example of this was a mention of Altamira developer, Aaron McCurry, and the technology Blur in Doug Cutting’s blog. Cutting is Cloudera’s Chief Architect and is the founder of the Apache Lucene and Hadoop projects. Cutting cited McCurry for his work influencing Cloudera Search with the open source search engine, Blur.

Blur runs on Apache Hadoop and is capable of querying massive amounts of data at incredible speeds. It combines the speed of document-oriented databases with the ability to build rich data models to deliver lightning-fast answers to complex queries. “Aaron’s contributions as the founding developer of Blur have represented a significant step forward for big data search technology, and have added critical capabilities for helping organizations gain value from their enormous datasets,” said Chris D’Agostino, Altamira’s Chief Technology Officer.

A second Altamira open-source initiative is Honeycomb, a MySQL storage engine that is designed to be a “drop in” replacement for the default storage engine, InnoDB. Altamira lead software engineer Dan Burkert was featured earlier this June at the widely attended HBaseCon, a conference well known throughout the Apache HBase community as the premier event for contributors to the HBase open source technology.

“Core to the company’s growth strategy is a healthy investment in internal research and development,” said Dan Law, Altamira’s Chief Scientist. Law leads the company’s IRAD program. He added, “We seek to make investments in additional open source capabilities as we look to fill gaps not otherwise being addressed.”
