New MOOCAdvisor.com Offers One-stop Solution to MOOC Search

Easy-to-use Site Designed by StudentAdvisor Helps Navigate Thousands of Courses and Features Advice from Real Users and Unbiased Experts

WOBURN, Mass.--()--StudentAdvisor.com, the leading "all things learning" resource, launched MOOC Advisor (www.moocadvisor.com), a one-stop-shop database of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). The free site also features first-hand user reviews and insights on the MOOC experience.

“MOOCs are being heralded as the ‘next big thing’ in higher education. Hundreds of institutions have already adopted the format to reach millions beyond the classroom. Just last year, Harvard and MIT invested $60 million to launch a joint MOOC effort: edX*; reporting an impressive 370,000 students registered for the 2012 fall semester alone**,” said Dean Tsouvalas, editor-in-chief of StudentAdvisor.

Tsouvalas added, “This is creating exciting opportunities, but also generating many questions: Are MOOCs for me? Which MOOC should I take? Our goal with MOOCAdvisor.com is to cut through the noise, simplifying the process of matching the right student with the right course.”

The MOOC Advisor site key features include:

  • Fully Searchable Database: vast compilation of open learning courses with robust descriptions, procured through a proprietary collection process.
  • Filters: facilitating searches by keywords, subjects, publisher, school, rating and ACE accreditation status.
  • Editorial: articles and interviews with thought leaders providing helpful guidance on online education topics such as:
    • How to choose a MOOC
    • Top tips for adult learners taking MOOCs
    • The value of MOOCs for stay-at-home parents
  • Lists: user-generated lists that are designed to organize MOOCs by different criteria including by interests and which MOOCs offer credits.
  • Ratings and Reviews: allows users to review any MOOC they have taken and give others valuable insight.
  • Easy Login and Registration: leverages users’ social media networks, including Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, for easy registration and verification.

MOOC Advisor plans to launch a free iTunes app version of the site this summer. To learn more about MOOC Advisor, visit moocadvisor.com.
