LAS VEGAS--()--Switch, the developer of the largest, best-designed technology ecosystems in the world, today unveiled its new SUPERNAP 8 data center facility in Las Vegas. The new SUPERNAP 8 presents Switch’s most innovative data center design yet and expands the industry’s largest and most advanced data center ecosystems to unparalleled capacity and density levels.

The SUPERNAPS provide unrivaled colocation, connectivity, cloud and content environments, and represent innovation, security and reliability for more than 600 global clients, from passionate startups to Fortune 100 powerhouses. The SUPERNAP 8 builds on technology advances achieved in SUPERNAP 7, while adding new features unmatched in the industry.

The SUPERNAPS, at over a 1000 feet in length, offer future growth with an industry-leading 200 MVA of mission critical power and 16 million CFM of cooling. This will allow Switch to efficiently operate more than 20,000 cabinets for the world’s leading companies at usage levels equivalent to an average raised floor data center consuming nearly 100,000 cabinets of space.

“It is our mission at Switch to solve problems, develop smart systems and think beyond tomorrow for the benefit of our clients, and SUPERNAP 8 is a direct result of this mission,” said Switch CEO and Founder Rob Roy.

SUPERNAP 8: The Most Advanced SUPERNAP Yet

SUPERNAP 8 advances include the Switch SHIELD redundant data center roofing system that offers two independent, separate and individually rated 200 mph steel roof decks. The two roof decks are located nine feet apart and are attached to the concrete and steel shell of the facility and contain zero roof penetrations. The Switch SHIELD is designed to mitigate any extreme weather concerns involving data center roofs while also providing a roofing solution that is forever maintainable.

Next, Switch SUPERNAP 8 offers the Switch IRON BLACK FOREST temperature control system that leverages Switch’s insulated THERMAL-SCIF™ (T-SCIF) heat containment system architecture to prevent event impacts. The steel infrastructure matrix that supports the T-SCIF system radiates cold stored thermal energy that intentionally allows for the facility to achieve HVAC resiliency ratings above elite industry standards.

New to the SUPERNAP multi-mode HVAC platform is the Switch ROTOFLY invented by Rob Roy. This patent pending flywheel design supports refrigeration and temperature controls during a power outage by delivering uninterruptible high-efficiency data center cooling.

Finally, SUPERNAP 8 offers the same tri-redundant backup power systems and the enhanced security that Switch pioneered for the industry. The SUPERNAPS benefit from being in America’s most connected city located in the safest desert on the planet, free from natural disasters and disturbances and built on the newest and greenest power grid in the United States.

The SUPERNAP Ecosystems

Fueled by Rob Roy’s 218 patented and patent pending claims for data center innovation, Switch is a complete technology engine and team driven toward one purpose: Developing an environment where clients experience the largest, highest density, most secure and energy-efficient data centers ever designed. Switch also offers connectivity with unsurpassed options for speed, bandwidth and pricing through the nearly $2 trillion in collective buying power of the Switch Combined Ordering Retail Ecosystem (C.O.R.E).

Switch clients are from industries such as retail, healthcare, gaming, entertainment, financial/banking, government, legal, IT, online retail and enterprise markets.
