HOUSTON--()--HomeServe USA (HomeServe), a leading provider of Emergency Repair Service Plans, today announced it will begin offering water and sewer line repair service plans to more than 500,000 homeowners in Houston through a new program sponsored by the City of Houston. The optional service plans offer homeowners protection for water and sewer line blocks, leaks and breaks on their property, which often require urgent attention and are costly to repair.

HomeServe is already an established service provider to 4,500 Houston homeowners. In addition, as of June 1st, the company has become an approved repair management administrator under a new program launched by the City of Houston. Houston Public Works & Engineering customers are receiving information about the new program in their June water bills. Additionally, program details are being provided in a special mailing from HomeServe to Houston homeowners beginning in mid-June.

“We’re pleased that the City of Houston recognizes HomeServe as a part of a new initiative to help Houston residents with the headache and often exorbitant cost of water and sewer line repairs,” said Tom Rusin, CEO of HomeServe USA. “Through this program, Houston homeowners will now have access to HomeServe’s affordable protection plans and our network of Houston based licensed and qualified service contractors should homeowners find themselves faced with an emergency home repair.”

Across the country, water and sewer infrastructure has become a growing concern for both municipalities and homeowners. The American Society of Civil Engineers gives our nation’s water and sewer infrastructure a grade of D1 and the National Association of Water Companies reports that leaking pipes lose an estimated seven billion gallons of clean drinking water a day.2 In addition, it is estimated that one million homeowners nationwide could suffer a water service line emergency and four million homeowners could have a sewer line disruption this year.3 A break or back up can create an environmental problem and financial crisis for the homeowner.

HomeServe recently announced a new association with former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and his team at Giuliani Partners. Giuliani Partners is advising HomeServe on increasing public awareness of the need for water and sewer infrastructure investment and consumer protection options across the US.

“Many people are not aware they are responsible for the water and sewer lines that run from the meter to their home. In many cases, when those lines break, the cost to repair them is often the responsibility of the homeowner. Unfortunately, most people only find out they are responsible after the line has already broken and they are stuck with a repair bill that is not covered by their homeowners insurance or by their local utility,” said Rudy Giuliani.

HomeServe serves more than 1.3 million customers in the US and Canada. HomeServe customers have access to a Repair Hotline that is staffed and available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to bring local, licensed and insured Houston based contractors right to their home for repairs. The water and sewer line protection policies HomeServe is offering to Houston homeowners are priced between $4.99 and $8.99 a month.
