Public Contracting Institute Simplifies, Deciphers Federal Acquisition Regulation with New Training Series

FUN with the FARteaches contracting professionals tips and techniques for navigating the federal government’s procurement process

WASHINGTON--()--Composed of more than 2,000 pages and countless clauses and provisions, the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) often causes confusion and uncertainty for both government and private sector contracting professionals alike. The Public Contracting Institute (PCI) is working to help contracting professionals decipher these complexities through its new series, FUN with the FAR℠.

Consisting of 25 bi-weekly webisodes running August 2013 until July 2014, FUN with the FAR℠ will address every part of the Federal Acquisition Regulation through open dialogue between instructors and students in an innovative inter-active format. After the conclusion of each class and leading up to the next session, instructors and students will continue their discussion in a social networking chat room accessible only to those who have subscribed to the class.

“To do their jobs properly, it is critical that contracting professionals within the government and the private sector not only understand the complex rules that are set forth in the FAR but also the needs of their respective organizations,” said Tracy Andrle, Managing Member of PCI.

“It is PCI’s hope," Ms. Andrle added, “that teaching in a manner that lets students obtain knowledge in a relaxed environment through casual conversation, stories, and games with prizes -- all of which are intended to inject fun into the learning process -- will make the FAR much more 'user friendly.' The techniques are also intended to facilitate dialogue between the government and the private sector. In addition, we believe that allowing students from both government and the private sector to have access to each other as well as instructors via web technology between sessions, is another dynamic feature that will further enhance the learning experience.”

Each webisode will be hosted by Steve Daoust, Vice President, Legal and Compliance for Iridium Satellite LLC and will feature different guest instructors throughout the training series. Mr. Daoust has over 25 years of experience providing contract and legal advice to both private and public sector clients and has spent much of his career developing training curricula on government contracting. “I am very excited about this opportunity and look forward to working with PCI, our expert guest instructors, and all of the wonderful professionals who will be coming along on our nearly year-long journey through the FAR, ” says Daoust. “The upcoming year will be filled with three things that I am deeply passionate about – teaching, Government contracts, and finding the fun in all that I do!"

The first Fun with the FAR℠ webisode will be held on August 14. To accommodate the schedules of today’s busy professionals, students may attend each session in person, via live webinar, or by listening to podcasts of classes at their own convenience.
