RALEIGH, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Bandwidth, the leading choice for innovative and scalable voice, 9-1-1 and SMS solutions, today announced Nexmo as a new wholesale SMS customer and the first to integrate with Bandwidth using short message peer-to-peer (SMPP) protocol, the wireless industry’s preferred messaging protocol. As a leading API provider for international SMS with a pure direct-to-carrier model, Nexmo is leveraging Bandwidth’s SMPP capability to gain access to the U.S. market.
Nexmo is Bandwidth’s global counterpart for SMS, providing a wholesale cloud-based SMS API for industry-leading messaging customers to exchange large volumes of messages at highly competitive rates. With Bandwidth’s SMPP solution, Nexmo customers can now access U.S. telephone numbers to send and receive text messages through software that is not tied to a wireless handset.

Now, companies like Nexmo that rely on SMPP can more readily bridge the wireline-to-wireless divide without building out SIP infrastructure.
A critical component of Bandwidth’s SMPP-based SMS service is the inclusion of a delivery receipt, or DLR. DLR not only identifies when a message is sent, but also when and if it is received; a feature critical to enabling Nexmo’s ability to bill based on the requirements of most international carriers. With this feature in place, Nexmo’s web and mobile application developer customers can now support communications with people in the U.S. from almost anywhere in the world and without a wireless handset.
