SPARTANBURG, S.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dr. Ann Bowles, Vice President for Academic Affairs at Spartanburg Methodist College, received the prestigious Woman of Accomplishment Award from the Business and Professional Women Foundation of South Carolina. The award honors successful women who have distinguished themselves in their career, community services, outstanding role models for young women, and for efforts on issues which are supported by the South Carolina Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Clubs, Inc.
Dr. Bowles received an Associates in Arts from North Greenville College in 1972, a Bachelor's of Arts in Guidance and Counseling from Limestone College in 1974, a M.Ed. in Guidance and Counseling from the University of South Carolina in 1979, and was awarded her Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration in 1992 from the University of South Carolina.
Bowles has served in leadership roles at USC Union, USC Beaufort, North Greenville University, and Spartanburg Technical College, and now serves on accreditation teams for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. At Spartanburg Methodist College she has been instrumental in developing the Pioneering Women Program which was designed to honor women who make a difference in our lives.
Bowles is a member of the Westside Rotary Club and serves on the Foundation and Scholarship Committees. She is a past member of the Executive Council for South Carolina Women in Higher Education, was the first woman to serve on the Spartanburg District 5 Board of Trustees, and won the Martha Kime Piper Award for advocating and supporting women in higher education.
Bowles is well known for her work in the community and with local charities. She serves at the Spartanburg Soup Kitchen with a group from First Baptist Church of Spartanburg and is a past president of the First Baptist Church of Spartanburg choir. She served on the Education Foundation of Business and Professional Women and chaired the breakfast of Spartanburg BPW Scholarship Committee before her election as president of the Spartanburg club.
